Privacy
What StayIn collects, what it doesn't, and how each part of the product handles your data. Written to be read, not skimmed past.

The short version
StayIn doesn't store what you say inside a conversation. Guided Practice is tap-only — there's nothing typed to store. Live Practice sends your words to an AI service to generate a reply, but StayIn's own systems don't keep a copy. You can try one free conversation — Guided or Live, whichever you try first — without signing in; after that, continuing to practice in either mode requires a Google sign-in — articles and worksheets stay free either way. We use analytics to understand which parts of the product are useful, never to identify you personally.
What we don't collect
- The actual content of your Live Practice conversations — your messages go directly to the AI service that powers the reply (see "AI conversations" below) and are not saved in StayIn's own database.
- Anything typed in Guided Practice — every turn is a tap on one of three choices, never free text.
- Payment or financial information — StayIn is free and collects none.
- Your location beyond what's inferrable from IP address during a request (we don't request or store precise location).
Analytics
We use PostHog to understand how the product is used — page views, which buttons and choices get tapped, and referrer/campaign parameters (like which ad or link brought you here). On most pages this may include an anonymous, masked session recording (any text field is always blacked out, never recorded). Live Practice and the Live picker never record a session, in any form, because that's the one place you type your own words.
Google sign-in
You get one free conversation without signing in — Guided or Live, whichever you try first. After that, continuing to practice in either mode requires signing in with Google — articles and worksheets are always free, no sign-in needed. If you sign in, Google shares your name, email address, and profile photo with us via Firebase Authentication, so we can save your practice history and show it back to you across devices.
AI conversations (Live Practice)
When you type a message in Live Practice, it's sent to OpenAI's API to generate the character's response. That exchange isn't saved in StayIn's own database — we only record that a session happened and whether you completed it, never what was said inside it.
Progress data
If you're signed in, we store which scenarios you started or completed and when, so your practice history can be shown back to you. That record itself doesn't include which choices you tapped or any conversation content — only that the session happened. Separately, on Guided scenario pages specifically, PostHog session replay (see "Analytics") can capture a recording of the session, including the choices you tapped — Guided has no typed text to mask, so the replay shows the same taps you made on screen. Live Practice and the Live picker are never recorded this way, in any form, regardless of whether you're signed in.
Feedback
If you use the feedback button, whatever you type is stored so it can be read and responded to, along with basic technical context (your current page, device/browser, and your name or email only if you choose to include them).
Email signup
If you submit your email to receive scenarios, it's sent to our email service (MailerLite) along with which page you signed up from. You can unsubscribe from any email we send.
Who else sees data, and why
- OpenAI — powers the AI conversation partner in Live Practice.
- PostHog — product analytics (see above).
- Firebase (Google) — sign-in (required to continue practicing past your first free conversation, in either mode) and, if you're signed in, storage of your progress history.
- MailerLite — only if you submit your email for scenario updates.
- Vercel — hosts the site and its backend functions.
We don't sell personal data to anyone.
Data retention
How long each of the above is keptTODO — retention periods aren't finalized yet. This section will be updated with specifics.
Cookies & local storage
StayIn uses your browser's local storage to remember things like your theme (light/dark), whether you've seen onboarding, and your practice progress if you're not signed in. Analytics uses standard cookie-based identifiers to avoid double-counting a visit.
Your choices
- Use StayIn without signing in — one free conversation as a guest (Guided or Live, whichever you try first), plus unlimited articles and worksheets.
- Ask us to delete your account and progress dataTODO — deletion flow not yet built, via the contact method below in the meantime.
- Unsubscribe from any email using the link in that email.
