Privacy

What StayIn collects, what it doesn't, and how each part of the product handles your data. Written to be read, not skimmed past.

The short version

StayIn doesn't store what you say inside a conversation. Guided Practice is tap-only, so there's no typed text — though session replay may still capture which choices you tap (see "Analytics" below). Live and Custom Practice send your words (and, if you use the microphone, your voice) to an AI service to generate a reply, but StayIn's own systems don't keep a copy.

You get one free practice in total — Guided, Live, or Custom, whichever you try first — without signing in. Creating a free account adds one extra practice, once per account. After that, more practices come from the StayIn Practice Pack, a one-time purchase (not a subscription). Signing in (with Google or an email link) saves your practice history, lets you buy the Pack, and keeps your purchased practices on your account. Articles and worksheets stay free either way.

Payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy, our Merchant of Record — StayIn never receives your full card details. We use analytics to understand which parts of the product are useful, and we don't sell personal data.

What we don't collect

  • The actual content of your Live or Custom Practice conversations — your messages (and any voice recording) go to the AI service that powers the reply (see "AI conversations" below) and are not saved in StayIn's own database.
  • Your full card or bank details — payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy (see "Payments" below), not by StayIn.
  • Your location beyond what's inferrable from IP address during a request (we don't request or store precise location).

Analytics

We use PostHog to understand how the product is used — page views, which buttons and choices get tapped, and referrer/campaign parameters (like which ad or link brought you here). On most pages this may include a masked session recording (any text field is always blacked out, never recorded). Live Practice and the Live picker never record a session, in any form, because that's the one place you type your own words. If you're signed in, analytics is linked to your account, including your name and email address, so we can understand how the product is used over time.

Advertising measurement

On www.stayinapp.com, Google's ad tag (Google Ads) measures visits that come from our ads, using its own cookies. If you then buy the Practice Pack, your browser tells Google Ads that a purchase happened — the order reference, the amount before tax, and the currency — after Lemon Squeezy has confirmed the payment, so we can see which ads lead to purchases. No name, email address or card details are sent. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, the Google Ads tag doesn't load and nothing is sent to Google Ads.

Signing in

You can sign in with Google or with a one-time sign-in link sent to your email address (sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication). With Google, Google shares your name, email address, and profile photo with us; with an email link, we receive your email address. While an email link is on its way, your browser keeps your email address in local storage so it can finish signing you in. Signing in lets us save your practice history across devices, lets you buy the Practice Pack, and keeps your purchased practices on your account. There's one free practice in total, and creating an account adds one extra practice, once per account.

Before you sign in

When you open a practice without signing in, StayIn may create an anonymous account identifier — a random ID with no name or email attached — so it can keep track of your one free practice. If you later sign in, that identifier is linked to (or merged into) your account, so your free practice is counted only once.

AI conversations (Live and Custom Practice)

When you type a message in Live or Custom Practice, it's sent to OpenAI's API to generate the character's response and the short feedback you see. For Custom Practice, the situation you describe is also sent to OpenAI to set up the practice; that setup is kept in your browser for the session, not in StayIn's database. If you use the microphone, your recording is sent to OpenAI to turn it into text, and the character's lines may be sent to OpenAI to be spoken aloud. None of this is saved in StayIn's own database — we only record that a practice happened and whether you completed it, never what was said inside it.

Payments

The StayIn Practice Pack is sold through Lemon Squeezy, which acts as our Merchant of Record: it runs the checkout, processes the payment, handles tax and receipts, and collects your payment and billing details under its own privacy policy. StayIn never receives or stores your full card details. Lemon Squeezy tells StayIn when an order is paid or refunded — an order reference, its status, and the amount, tax and currency — so we can add practices to your account (or remove them after a refund). Practices, purchases, and progress

To deliver what you've bought, StayIn keeps account-linked records: your practice balances (Guided, Live, Custom) and whether you've used your free practice and your account's extra practice; a record each time a practice starts (which mode and scenario, and when), so practices can be counted against your balance; and records of your purchases and any refunds (order reference, status, amount and currency, and the practices added or removed — no card details). If you're signed in, we also store which scenarios you started or completed and when, so your practice history can be shown back to you. None of these records include conversation content or which choices you tapped. Separately, on Guided scenario pages specifically, PostHog session replay (see "Analytics") can capture a recording of the session, including the choices you tapped — Guided has no typed text to mask, so the replay shows the same taps you made on screen. Live Practice and the Live picker are never recorded this way, in any form, regardless of whether you're signed in.

Feedback

If you use the feedback button, whatever you type is stored so it can be read and responded to, along with basic technical context (your current page, device/browser, and your name or email only if you choose to include them). A copy is emailed to the StayIn team using our email delivery service, Resend.

Email signup

If you submit your email to receive scenarios, it's sent to our email service (MailerLite) along with which page you signed up from. You can unsubscribe from any email we send.

Who else sees data, and why

We don't sell personal data to anyone.

Data retention

We keep your account, progress, balance, and purchase records for as long as your account exists, because they're needed to show your history and to provide the practices you've bought. Anonymous identifiers and their records are kept the same way, so a free practice that's been used stays used. Analytics data and the data held by the services listed above are kept according to those services' own retention settings and policies — Lemon Squeezy keeps its order and payment records under its own policy. You can ask us to delete your account at any time (see "Your choices").

Cookies & local storage

StayIn uses your browser's local storage to remember things like your theme (light/dark), whether you've seen onboarding, your practice progress if you're not signed in, an in-progress practice so a reload doesn't count as a new one, and your email address while a sign-in link is pending. Analytics uses standard cookie-based identifiers to avoid double-counting a visit.

Age

StayIn is intended for adults aged 18 and over. It isn't designed for children, and we don't ask for or check your age.
